Miami Gardens City Council voted unanimously this week to lease city-owned vacant property at 18600 Northwest 25th Avenue to P3 Markets and Beckham Hospitality. The 50-year lease will bring a 127-room hotel called the Beckham Hotel Miami Gardens, a parking garage, and a performing arts center with a 1,200-seat theater to a 3.5-acre parcel near Hard Rock Stadium.

The developer will pay the city approximately $18.6 million in rent over the lease term. Phillip L. Beckham III, a Black developer from Chicago, leads the project. No hotel brand affiliation has been announced.

The site sits two miles from Hard Rock Stadium, which hosts the Miami Dolphins, University of Miami Hurricanes football, the Orange Bowl, a Formula 1 race, and the Miami Open tennis tournament.

"We invest in communities that look like us," Beckham told City Council during the meeting. Miami Gardens has a population of 116,115 and is 59 percent Black according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
